Flood Relief Efforts in Punjab: –

In a significant gesture of support, the Governor of Punjab, Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria in his capacity as President of the Punjab State Branch of the Indian Red Cross Society, flagged off relief materials to 7 flood-affected districts of Punjab today. This initiative is part of the Indian Red Cross Society’s ongoing efforts to provide humanitarian aid and support to communities impacted by the recent floods.

The relief materials dispatched include fogging machines, which will play a crucial role in the rehabilitation process by helping to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases and ensuring a safer environment for the affected populations.

The flagging off ceremony marks the beginning of a concerted effort by the Punjab State Branch to reach out to the affected communities and provide them with the necessary support to rebuild their lives.

Team visited affected areas for mapping and assessment to study the impact of the floods at the ground level and also met with the Sarpanch of Pind Chak Aula in Ajnala who shared the challenges being faced by the local community.

The campaign is being organized under the guidance of Sh. Shivdular Singh (IAS Retd.), Secretary. In this campaign, essential relief material and other daily-use items will be distributed to the affected families.

The area visited today needs extensive relief, and the people expressed happiness on seeing the Punjab State Red Cross Branch team by openly sharing their problems. Seeing that the area has received minimal help until now, the Punjab State Red Cross Branch is dedicated to providing maximum aid and support to meet the urgent needs of the affected community.

This campaign is a true example of “Humanity in Action,” where the Punjab State Red Cross Branch team through its professionals and volunteers is working directly on the ground to listen, respond, and serve.

By addressing immediate needs and standing with the most vulnerable, the Punjab State Red Cross Branch is proving that compassion and service remain at the heart of its mission.

On Tuesday, 16th September 2025, the Indian Red Cross Society, Punjab State Branch, Chandigarh, in collaboration with PM Shri Sarkari Kanya Senior Secondary School, Ajnala, Civil Hospital and NGO Mogra, continued its relief operations in Ajnala, Punjab.
The initiative was carried out under the guidance of Ms. Piyusha Burdak (IAS), ACUT and Sh. Shivdular Singh (IAS Retd.), Secretary.
The Punjab State Red Cross Branch team was invited to attend a special event at PM Shri Sarkari School on stress management and the impact of floods in Amritsar districts. During the program, the team shared details of the three-day relief material distribution in Ajnala, the activities undertaken, and key suggestions to Ms. Piyusha Burdak, IAS for addressing issues faced by flood-affected families. The team assured continued support through counseling, volunteers, and flood relief services, while also highlighting the role of the four IRCA units of Punjab Red Cross in providing psychosocial care and emergency assistance. Appreciating the three-day campaign, Ms. Piyusha Burdak,IAS commended the dedication of the Punjab State Red Cross Branch team, who reaffirmed their readiness to extend further support whenever required.
As part of the day’s activities-
• Women teachers and community members participated in awareness sessions on menstrual hygiene, and menstrual cups were distributed.
• The team also visited Civil Hospital,Ajnala where similar awareness sessions on menstrual hygiene were conducted.
• Lastly, the team conducted a community outreach program near Baring School, Ajnala, where additional awareness sessions on menstrual hygiene were held.
The three-day campaign of the Punjab State Red Cross Branch created a meaningful impact, reaffirming its humanitarian role. In Ajnala and border-area communities, the team encouraged families with assurances of continued support, underscoring that the Punjab State Red Cross stands firmly with them.
In recognition of the efforts, the Punjab State Red Cross Branch was asked to address and document the activities for the DC Office, which highlighted the hard work carried out and identified the areas where support is most needed.
