IRCS Punjab State Branch Celebrates World Red Cross Day 2026 at Lok Bhawan Punjab

The Indian Red Cross Society, Punjab State Branch celebrated World Red Cross Day 2026 with great enthusiasm at Lok Bhawan Punjab

Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and President, Indian Red Cross Society, Punjab State Branch, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The programme commenced with a warm welcome to the Hon’ble Governor, followed by the National Song.

Thereafter, S. Shivdular Singh Dhillon, IAS (Retd.), Secretary, IRCS Punjab State Branch, apprised the gathering of the humanitarian activities undertaken by the Branch. He highlighted the vital support extended by various corporates through CSR initiatives during the Punjab Floods 2025. He also outlined the Branch’s ongoing work in First Aid Training, Voluntary Blood Donation Camps, and Civil Defence Training conducted during Operation Sindoor.

A live demonstration on CPR and choking management was conducted by certified Red Cross trainers to promote life-saving skills. The programme continued with a cultural segment, where volunteers presented a thought-provoking skit on drug abuse. A beneficiary who successfully overcame addiction after treatment at the Red Cross Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts, Patiala shared his inspiring recovery journey. The segment concluded with a vibrant Bhangra performance by Youth Red Cross volunteers.

The Hon’ble Governor released the Red Cross flag, symbolising the spirit of service and humanity. He then felicitated stakeholders and partners who extended exemplary support to the Punjab State Branch during the Punjab Floods 2025.

In his address, the Hon’ble Governor lauded the activities of the Red Cross and the spirit of the donors. He urged the youth to serve the nation with dedication and enthusiasm.

As part of the Branch’s livelihood support initiative, sewing machines were distributed to needy women to promote self-reliance. Nutrition kits were also distributed to TB patients adopted by the Branch, reaffirming its commitment to community health.

The event was attended by life members, Red Cross officials, volunteers, and distinguished dignitaries. World Red Cross Day is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Sir Jean Henry Dunant the Founder of Red Cross Movement who was born on 8th May 1828 in Switzerland.
Punjab State Red Cross Branch Chandigarh celebrated the World Red Cross Day- 2024 at Red Cross Bhawan, Sec-16A Chandigarh with the theme “KeepingHumanityLive”. The programme was presided over by Shri Banwarilal Purohit, Hon’ble Governor, Punjab & President of the Punjab State Red Cross. The programme was started with felicitation of chief guest, and National Anthem followed by a ceremony where the Hon’ble Governor, administered the pledge to 200 students from different Schools, Colleges and Universities. Later, the Hon’ble Governor inaugurated the Voluntary Blood Donation Camp and encouraged the donors by spending time with them and motivated them to donate blood regularly. After this, the Hon’ble Governor handed out certificates and gifts to the blood donors. Later, the Hon’ble Governor released the Red Cross Flag to honour the birth anniversary of Sir Jean Henry Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross, and to reaffirm a commitment to the values of compassion, impartiality, and service to humanity.
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  

 

The Punjab State Branch of the Indian Red Cross Society celebrated World Red Cross Day at Punjab Raj Bhawan. This State level function was presided over by Shri Banwarilal Purohit, Hon’ble Governor, Punjab & President of the Punjab State Red Cross. Following the theme of this year is World Red Cross Day ”Everything we do comes #fromtheheart” On this occasion, 10 battery operated  tricycles to the handicapped persons, 10 sewing machines to the deserving women and 10 nutrition kits to the TB patients were distributed by the Hon’ble Governor, Punjab. Also, Hon’ble Governor, Punjab flagged off the Hearse Van vehicle. In addition to this, on the eve of World Red Cross Day, a voluntary blood donation camp was organised by Punjab State Red Cross Branch in collaboration with Chandigarh University, Mohali and 180 students, Red Cross volunteers donated blood.
